San Francisco World Series Win Has Local Flair SPRINGFIELD, Mass (WGGB) — A small part of western Massachusetts was part of the San Francisco Giants World Series win this week. Giants outfielder Juan Perez was an up and coming prospect on the 2008 Valley Blue Sox, then known as the Holyoke Blue Sox. The Blue Sox often often advertise that fans can see the Major League Baseball starts of tomorrow in the current day as they play in the New England Collegiate Baseball League as prospects. The Blue Sox also had their first player get drafted in the first round of the MLB draft this year when Max Pentecost was drafted ninth by the Toronto Blue Jays. “Hopefully people start to see that and get excited about the type of product that we are putting out on the field,” Blue Sox General Manager Hunter Golden said. Juan Perez is proof of success. Perez played a critical part of the Giants season, and World Series run. “You look back at the old scouting reports in Baseball America, obviously his speed, his range, his defense,” Golden said. “A lot of things he is really well known for now were the things that stuck out to scouts.” He was a league leader, but well liked off the field as well. He lived with a Holyoke host family with five other players. “It must have been an awfully busy household but by all accounts and everybody that interacted with him loved having him here,” Golden said. “He was a pleasure to coach and he was a great kid to have in the community.” The Blue Sox say the success of Perez only serves to strengthen their role in the Pioneer Valley. “It speaks a lot not only to the quality of baseball in our league but to the kinds of players we are bringing here to the valley,” Golden said. The summer 2015 Blue Sox team is already well underway to being filled out.
