Sans admit cards, SSB to go ahead with screening test Candidates Complain Of Glaring Discrepancies; Aspirants From Curfewed Areas Left In Lurch GK NEWS NETWORK Srinagar, Sep 12: Even as hundreds of job aspirants, particularly from curfew bound south Kashmir are unable to get their admit cards for the Services Selection Board (SSB) screening test because of reported fault in the SSB website, the Board is reluctant to postpone the exam. This has put the career of around two lakh candidates from across the state in jeopardy, who are scheduled to appear in the entrance test on September 14 for various posts advertised by the Board. THE FAULTY WEBSITE The candidates say they were asked to download their admit cards online from SSB website. But the portal, which has often been in news for wrong reasons, due to its faulty design, didn’t prove of any help for the candidates. “We have been trying to download our admit cards from SSB website for the past several days but in futility as the website is not working properly,” a delegation of the complainants said. Greater Kashmir received scores of such complaints during the past few days. THE DISCREPANCIES Those who succeeded in downloading the admit cards complained of errors in these cards. “My parentage and address have been wrongly mentioned and nobody is ready to listen,” said an aspirant amid chaos over such complaints at SSB office at Rambagh. A female candidate said she was surprised to see the photograph of a male candidate pasted on her admit card. “What the hell is this? How will the invigilator allow a girl to appear in exam where admit card has the picture of a man with moustache,” said a candidate from Srinagar. THE CURFEW TROUBLE The worst sufferers are candidates from south Kashmir areas like Shopian, Kulgam, which have been under frequent curfew since September 7 as five people have been killed in the area in CRPF firing. The aspirants who phoned Greater Kashmir from south Kashmir said: “We are neither able to download the admit cards nor have we been able to contact SSB office because of continued curfew,” said a delegation on phone. The aspirants said they had appealed the senior SSB officials on phone that the exam be postponed. “But we got a cold response enough to convey that the ruling National Conference led coalition is resorting to step-motherly treatment with south Kashmir even for job avenues,” the candidates said. QUESTION PAPERS There’s another problem. Highly placed sources said the SSB fears that the question papers are not upto the mark and so have decided not to allow the candidates to carry it home as happens with all such exams. “Basically SSB is not used to holding written tests and so some discrepancies have propped up even in the question papers so to hide the same no one will be allowed to carry question papers along,” said an insider requesting not to be named. OFFICIALS SATISFIED When contacted the SSB Chairperson, Shagufta Parveen said any of the aspirants having problem with the admit cards should have contacted them adding that not “thousands but only a few candidates faced such problems”. “There were some minor issues like discrepancy in parentage and address which were brought to our notice,” she said. Defending the reported faulty website, she said: “It (website) was overloaded because around five lakh users were trying to access it.” But to the appeals of aspirants from curfewed Shopian and other adjacent districts, who have sought postponement of the exam, the official had a self-satisfying reply. “They should have approached us on phone or SMS,” she said. The SSB website, however, has a different directive for such cases and not so easy as SMS. “In case of any discrepancy or the application of the candidate is shown as ‘Please contact JKSSB’, the candidate should contact respective District Units of J&K SSB from Employment and Counseling Centres of the concerned district with copy of confirmation page of application submitted to JKSSB and details of dispatch i.e. name of the Post Office, date of dispatch, Original Receipt of Postal dispatch, Photostat Copy of Confirmation Page, fee payment details/copy of challan and two original photograph as pasted on the confirmation page,” reads the diktat on the website....
