Santiago-based MC2 arquitectos demonstrate how easy it can be to embrace the cold and snowy winter weather. Their newly completed cabin in Malacahuello, Chile, which is located deep in the ski territory of the countrys Araucanía Region, is a veritable winter wonderland for nature lovers. The tiny retreat measures just 48 square meters, and it offers incredible views of the surrounding forest. The Malacahuello cabin may not be the most spacious of vacation homes, but it more than meets the needs of anyone looking for a tranquil, minimalist getaway. Snowfall in this area can reach up to a meter high, so an elevated wood path leads through the forest and up to the slanted dark cabin hidden among the surrounding trees. Inside, a large north facing window leads the eye towards a gorgeous view that looks out over the snow-covered forest. A few smaller, strategically placed windows throughout the single-room home help with natural ventilation during the summer months as well as permit a 180 degree view of the surroundings. The interior is open and luminous thanks to the minimalist concept and the warm bleached pine wood on the walls, ceiling and floors.
