Sarah and I finally seem to have gotten some encouraging news! Our high-risk doctor has been hoping for Sarahs fluid level around Graham to be about 4 cm. This would be considered a normal fluid level. Since the rupture, we have had many sonograms, but never very close to our goal. We have seen. 1.5, 3, 2.6, 0 and 2.3 cm. We decided that we should try to artificially raise the fluid levels again through the experimental procedure. We showed up to the appointment and dressed up in our OR attire. Sarah laid down on the table. The sonographer put the ultrasound wand on Sarah, and the doctor said, theres fluid around the baby. A lot of fluid. Turns out, Sarah had 4.1 cm of fluid! We obviously didnt go through with the procedure. We went back the next day and the level was about the same. Today, we had another appointment, and the level was 5.5 cm! Praise the Lord!!! We are so thankful for an increase in fluid levels. Even if they dont maintain long-term, every day that Graham has enough fluid increases the likelihood of proper lung development and of his survival. We are three weeks from viability and admittance to the hospital. We are by no means out of the woods, though. We are pretty sure that the rupture has not sealed up, although maybe partially. Risk of infection is still high and an infection would bring everything to a quick and heartbreaking end. Please pray that Sarah and Graham would not get an infection. Also, please pray that the fluid levels would maintain. God has been teaching us a lot recently. If you missed it a few days ago, here is a link to the blog post I wrote that talks through some of what God has showed Sarah and I over the last few weeks. It attempts to make a little sense of a few questions: Why did this happen to US? Why isnt God answering my prayers? Where is God now that we need him so desperately? If God is so good and so powerful, why doesnt he use his power to help us? 4thsmithgirl.wordpress/2014/08/11/god-is-good-by-curry-holden/ Thank you, all, for your prayers and support. God is at work!
