Sat at the back of tonights gig that was panning out to be - TopicsExpress

Sat at the back of tonights gig that was panning out to be unplayable, I watched the mc almost beg the audience to listen. They werent interested. The opener crashed through 15 minutes of saying stuff whilst the audience chatted to each other. I looked around for how the hell I was going to get through my 20 minutes and feel like the 6 hour trip was worthwhile. The venue was a relatively lavish function suite seating 200 people who had just had a wonderful meal but the actual place was a huge entertainment site that included a full size real snow slope. From where everyone was sat eating, there was a panoramic window that looked out across the slopes where tractors were now ploughing up the fresh snow before the next snow boarders went down. As I grabbed the mic I said good evening and the crowd as one said good evening. They werent talking. They were silent for 2 seconds. Right. Lets do this, I thought. I want to start on a sombre note this evening. Youve all had your lovely meals and these guys working in here have finished preparing your dinner. Their job is done. But spare a thought for all those guys out through that window, still preparing dinner for Nigella Lawson!! The room erupted and I had them for the duration of my set. Havent felt this good about a gig for a while considering what I thought it was going to be like. Im exhausted but at least Im now home, with a job done!
