Satan hates revival and will try by any means to stop it. The Catholic monarchs of France caused 72,000 Protestants (Huguenots) to be massacred on one day in 1572. Finding that persecution only strengthened the movement in England, Satan attempted to stamp it out by war. in 1588, Philip II of Spain sent the Spanish Armada to bring England under the domination of Rome. Writing of this, Richard Hakluyt said, ... English men were not of any such force, whereby they might, without a miracle dare once to approach within sight of the Spanish Fleet : insomuch that they freely ascribed all the honor of their victory unto God, who had confounded the enemy and had brought his counsels to none effect... This was a miraculous defeat of the whole Spanish Armada. As the Spanish Fleet sailed up the English Channel, they were met by a much smaller English navy. In the natural, the English had no hope, (much like Gideons 300 against tens of thousands), yet all of England had been FASTING AND PRAYING. A storm arose and blew many Spanish ships against the coast of Holland, causing them to sink. Oddly the English ships were unaffected and were able to maneuver next to the Spanish ships and set many of them on fire. Only a few Spanish ships limped back to Spain without touching English soil. God intervened to make this possible. it paved the way for England to rule the seas for a time until America was established as the FIRST Christian Republic, EVER, in 1789.
