Satan was Brilliant, but not Wise BY iEmanuella I came across - TopicsExpress

Satan was Brilliant, but not Wise BY iEmanuella I came across a powerful sentence today while reading my devotion, “Satan wanted God’s power, but not His character”. Lucifer was created with perfect qualities, perfect capabilities, and a perfect mind. However he was also created with the freedom to put what he chose into it. While a heavenly being and cherub to God he got to understand and know God’s character like no other celestial being aside from Christ. He was the third in command. People are mostly affected by that which they desire, and that is what transforms their character. In Lucifer’s case, the most thing he desired was power and adoration, although he was given plenty of both! He was the third in command and was created with so much beauty that all Heaven adored this bright and shining angel. In Ezekiel 28:12 it says “‘You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone adorned you…” But with great blessing comes great responsibility, in Lucifer’s case it was His great responsibility to remain humble, to remember where these blessings came from, and be grateful for what he was given. But with that brilliant, yet free mind, Lucifer began to entertain the thought of how magnificent he was and how much he found pleasure in being told that. At first it may have just been a passing thought. But over time such a thought entertained would lead to love of self, presumption and pride. Needless to say these would combine into a recipe for disaster, not only for Lucifer, but a third of the angels, humanity and God Himself! Lucifer who was later called Satan was indeed the most brilliant of all created beings, but he was not wise. And how could he be when the Bible says “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” Psalms 111:10. The Bible even mentions this specifically and I found it VERY interesting in verse 17 of Ezekiel 28: “Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom”. Satan was so fixated on himself, what he wanted and what he believed he deserved that he lost sight of God, and hence all wisdom. God’s character was always that of meekness, humbleness, self-sacrifice, and love for His created beings. Yet He was GOD. He was the one in control, He was the one who made everything and hence deserved the ultimate gratitude and adoration of the celestial world. Satan didn’t look at God as the gracious, merciful, and loving God that He was, all he saw was that power and glory he wished he had. At first Satan was not even aware of the nature of the thoughts of pride that were welling up him. But he was aware when he made the decision to rebel against God for supremacy. A lot of people think that what Satan had done and continues to do is really stupid. How could he have made such a mistake? When one is so engrossed with self love and desire for greater glorification they have no means for attaining any wisdom. Wisdom literally means to have the quality of good judgment. Apart from the love and connection with God good judgment was severely impaired. The next time you want a bit more “self-glorification” remember Satan’s story, and be thankful for what you have! Believe it or not there’s a huge number of people who wish they had what YOU have! We can learn much from the day Lucifer became Satan.
