Saturday 3rd January, 1914 Train (10:30) to Hawick. RHS. Paid fares to Gala & Harwick, but Gala cost me 5/6 (2- 2/- meals & 1/6 extra room, tips) & Harwick 3/6 (1-2/- meal & room etc). Dull day. Huge crowd. Draw 3-3 (Tom & Inglis off – Elder playing on wing & Dave Gary [?] in the 9/4 line. G.P. Watson & Alec Steven (Gerard also off) playing. Fierce game. Back by same train as from Gala on I. Ships party. Arrive near end (just before supper). Great sport. Terrible rush to get my gear from Pud’s. Only about half of it up. Up with 11PM. Carried with Ships Co. (Nan Knot, May Muir [?], Alfy, Doll, Mac & Jimy also came on car) to Salisbury Rd & walked rest.
