Saturday Morning Newsreel: The immigration reform dream is turning into a nightmare. In 2012, President Obama ordered immigration officials to stop deporting illegal immigrants under 31 who’d lived in the US for five years, had clean records, and arrived when they were under 16. He called it the “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival” program. Critics called it a dereliction of his constitutional duty to enforce the laws. Two years later, we’re even more sharply divided. This week, Obama hosted 10 outstanding kids to the White House who are all illegal immigrants saved by DACA. Meanwhile, our Border Agents are swamped with over 47,000 unaccompanied children who’ve arrived just since October. Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio said Border Patrol agents are too busy changing diapers to stop drug dealers. The masses of illegal immigrants have heard that our laws no longer apply, and if they can get here, they can stay here. Some may say Obama’s message was garbled in translation. But maybe they got the message clearer than we did.
