Saturday a few weeks ago we spent a fair part of the afternoon - TopicsExpress

Saturday a few weeks ago we spent a fair part of the afternoon trying to catch a young monkey who had been deliberately caught on a specially baited hook at the end of a piece of fishing line. The line had been attached to a branch and the small monkey had reached up to take the enticing morsel and put it in his mouth only to find himself dangling at the end of the line with a large silver hook pierced through his tongue and into his pallet, and a free hanging hook through his hand. Picnickers only a few meters away had, unbelievably, watched the little monkey for over three hours, as he played with some thing in the air above his head. They could not see the fishing line or the hook in his mouth. Only much later when one of them ventured closer did they become aware of the monkeys plight and immediately called Monkey Helpline. Unfortunately as we approached the monkeys the nylon finally snapped and the little monkey escaped into the trees with the bright silver hook still embedded in his mouth. Today, amazingly we were called to rescue a small monkey MVA victim in Nyoni Rd, Amanzimtoti, adjacent to the picknick area where the small monkey had been impaled on the fish hook. We could scarcely believe our eyes when as we picked the monkey up we noticed the shiny hook protruding obscenely from his mouth. Thanks and well done to Victoria Mostert for stopping , calling Monkey Helpline and braving the defensive troop to remain with the baby until we arrived. Youre todays Heroine Victoria.
