Saturday is here and just about a week left. If the painting is - TopicsExpress

Saturday is here and just about a week left. If the painting is done then they just have to wax the floor before I can start moving furniture in and organizing. I’m anxious to get this Learning Center up and running. It will be locked until Vicki gets here in January. So I want to get it open so they can experience it. We spent the morning cleaning the house and did two loads of laundry. The sky was so cloudy so we didn’t put anything outside until it brightened up. I re-arranged the living room so it would sit more people. I cleaned the desk and credenza off. I evicted hundreds of upset spider families and used my fair share of DOOM to insure they would not be back. The house looks nice. I saw Simon Peter outside working so I called him over and gave him what we had left of popcorn. He was grinning, happy to have a little snack. At 2 we grabbed Allen and decided to go back and visit the Big Headed Boy whose name is Paulo. My friend wants to sponsor him so we took him 2 sets of clothes and for his baby brother too. Those kids are always naked and filthy. I saw Paulo grin again when Allen helped him put the clothes on him. He looked good. I had found a pair of flip flops for him and I would bet it’s his first pair of shoes. He looked really proud. His Mom was happy when I delivered her a bag of rice. The Dad came out and was smiling as he watched Allen dress his kids. I told them that someone wanted to sponsor little Paulo in school next year to help pay for his school fees so she had sent the clothes and rice as well. They were super happy to hear that. They said they would sign him up for school in January. I took a bag of sugar over to the old grandpa. Hannington had promised him some so I wanted to deliver. He was very thankful. We passed by Little Richards. His grandma was not home again. He and Maureen were in the kitchen helping their grandpa. He was peeling Matoke and the kids were washing it. On the way down the trail John noticed a boy in the bushes. He was about maybe 3, completely naked, carrying a big knife. We took a picture of course. You don’t see that every day. The funny lady at the beginning of the road was out weaving a mat. I took her a small bag of rice and thanked her for being so funny. She laughed and was ecstatic to have the rice. She had piles of wood shavings so we asked what she was doing with them. She said they were from cutting down trees. They were going to smoke them to keep the mosquitoes away. I haven’t heard that one before. It’s 5pm and I am hungry so I’m making a quick dinner and then going to see if any of the girls want to practice their serves. Allen was busy doing her laundry. You know that can take up to several hours here so I don’t think there will be volleyball tonight. John and I walked down by the kitchen. A bunch of boys were playing soccer so we watched a while. Behind Mama Vicencia’s a group of girls were playing jump rope. John took one end of the rope and that surprised them. They all wanted to jump. He did that for quite a while. I love to see John play with the kids. He is so brave. Mama V was making Cabalagala, my favorite word in Luganda. It means pancakes but it looks like a biscuit. They are brown, sweet and thick. She makes the dough and rolls them out on the lid of a 5 gallon bucket with a pop bottle. She sells them. After we were taking photos and goofing around and the girls were getting a bit too close to John so he was ready to leave. Lol. We came back up to the house for another movie and bed. It was super buggy tonight. We killed probably 20 of those tiny gnats but we missed probably 50. They were dive bombing us all during the movie. When I got up to put our dishes in the sink I looked in the tub of bleach water and there were already about 100 in there who had committed suicide. God bless them. I hope more follow suit. Now I’m safely in my bug tent. The only problem is they are so small that some can get through. We left the kitchen light on out there so hopefully they won’t come our way. Some other bug got in my pants last night and bit me 3 times. I could never find him. Then tonight I got bites on my other leg. No more movies at the kitchen table. I do not like being someone else’s meal. I itch!
