Saturday night, a milestone quietly passed, and I didnt really talk about it. I played my last gig with my last original band in 1998. Then I broke up the band, sold everything I owned, and left town on a bicycle. Although I began playing again years later, when I ran my open mics, I did not put together an actual band again until a couple months ago. I tried to start one several times before that in recent years, but finding people in this area is excruciatingly difficult, so each failure to put something together has been followed by a long period of angrily turning my attention elsewhere for a while. This last time, I got lucky. I found three guys who were willing and able to do this right, finally. Saturday night, we played our first gig as a full band. The four of us got paid to perform songs that came out of my brain, and the club booked us for another show when we were done. It feels as if a part of me that was missing has finally come back from wherever its been. Its good to be whole again.
