Saudi Arabias decision to publicly lash Raes Badawai, apparently a blogger and right activist, for whatever he said or had written in 2012 is disgusting. Apparently he will be lashed 50 times each week outside a mosque for 20 weeks to complete the award of 1000 lashes. This is horrible. All this public punishment for just writing something. Surprisingly no media site mentions what exactly had he written which has so angered the Saudi authorities. I wonder if this had more to do with the Royal Family and its rule rather than religion itself. Its true the regime is struggling hard to keep itself together - and its alliance of tribal elite with clerics - in the wake of a globalization challenge, but even then a little leniency to its opponents might be needed. One still hopes that after this Show of brutality the remaining sentence will be waived off.
