Saudi: Plan to let sponsorship transfer for workers in ‘Green’ & ‘Excellent’ companies. Sources at the Saudi Ministry of Labor said that the ministry is considering a new system that allows expatriates working in organizations that fall under the Green and Excellent categories to transfer their sponsorship and change their employer once their employment contract expires. Authorities are of the opinion that this proposed system could lead to a rivalry among companies for good expat workers in the kingdom and thus result in higher wages. This would then encourage these companies to employ Saudi nationals instead of expatriates. The ministry ultimately hopes to increase competition between expats and Saudis. It also aims to reduce employers’ dependence on expat workers. This system could bring an end to employers’ absolute control over their employees’ career, reported Akhbaar24 news. Moreover, it would make way to reduce further manpower recruitment from foreign countries as it would be easier for the expats who constitute about 77% of the total labor in Saudi Arabia to find jobs from the local job pool.
