Saw a great movie about the onslaught of the AIDS epidemic in the 80s. Well acted, profound, poignant and thought provoking. We all belong to cliques, subcultures, and some list of common attributes we call our. Kind. Our kind has a common race, creed, color, economic station, geography, mores, culture,, political and religious principles and philosophy. Those who share these attributes are my brothers and sisters, those with variatons are in the others category. What does it take to have compassion, respect, trust and friendship with those of another group. How to transcend the indifferenc and the natural human inclination towards neglect of those in another group who are suffering, or have problems, that dont affect your life? This is pertinent socially and politically , when helping others in another group may be costly in money or health. And how do you convince one group of people to give money, in do.ations or taxes, or even risk health and safety, for the problems of other races, creeds, class, nation, tribe, political ideologies or culture. Without resentment??? You have to admire missionaries, who through the power of Jesus and the Holy Spirit, can be a Good Samaritan, and think of others as brothers/sisters. Most of us honestly have difficulty with that, especially if you are convinced the other groups want to hurt you or take your money.
