Saw general surgeon yesterday. He wants to cut me open and take out the lipomas on top of rib cage that are close to skin then schedule major surgery to get deep inside at big one, which would mean opening up my abdominal wall and replacing it with mesh so my guts dont spill out. He says they have a 5% chance of returning in same spot, but all the research shows 50% chance, and its inevitable more lipomas will grow elsewhere. My entire family was like, NO WAY, because Im so immunosuppressed and dont heal well, and hes only had one Dercums patient ever. It was tempting, tho, to alleviate the pain! So, the plan is to wait and see Dr. Herbst, the expert, because she uses things like manual lymph drainage and hyperbaric chamber therapy before surgery. There is still a likelihood of surgery, but we will tackle that hurdle in July. I will bide my time with lidocaine patches, pain meds, and the new season of Orange is the New Black!
