Saw two ladies carrying buttas containing defanged cobras today. Followed them almost 2km and finally found them begging at a TOLL Gate. Thought its right time to catch them in action, felt i need some help from local people as i dont know language. There starts the calling game. Called Forest Dept toll free [which is not working], then called to their helpline number, they asked me contact BBMP. So called BBMP helpline , they gave another persons number. And when i called that number, to my shock he said that if its a cobra then we cant help , as they are defanged somehow they will die so its waste to seize. As my mind is still under shock i called another rescue group, they inturn pointed me to contact same person. Meanwhile , i tried look for any police officer nearby to support me as it will become a big issue if i handle directly as the snake charmers are women. So i called local police station, waited for half an more and finally two policemen came , then we grabbed the charmer lady and the snake and went to police station. Police were very helpful, especially Station SI who supported alot. And later asked me to take the snake and hand over to any rehabilitation center, with an acknowledgement letter . Me started calling NGOs again to pick the snake for treatment and rehab. Again similar response. Called few people and finally one person came from BBMP came and picked up the snake.This whole scenario took 5 hours. Waiting, Calling .... after so much frustration finally happy that the snake is sent for treatment and rehab . I felt if this is the situation to a person like me[crazy animal lover] what about normal public who try to report such cruelties?
