Say Hiya to Shya! Her story is one that went from heartbreaking to heartwarming. Shya is approximately six years old and a Hound mix. She was picked up as a stray by animal control and taken to the Lenoir County SPCA shelter in North Carolina in mid-November. It was obvious that Shya had been on her own for a long time. Not only was she emaciated, but she had an old injury to her front right leg. It had been broken and healed in a very unusual way. A vet who evaluated her did not think Shya was in pain; however, he was concerned about her having arthritis in the leg. She did walk and put weight on the leg, but sometimes she held it up.
