Update as of 6/7: Todays a big day for Corbin! He had his respirator removed, along with some tape that is on his face to hold it in place. We will get to see more of his handsomeness! He is now breathing without any assistance!!! His voice was heard for the first time too! Not coherent speech, but a sound of his own making nonetheless. Hes still storming heavily and requires medication to keep it under control. Im glad that I was able to see him do this under sedation so that when he is not sedated and still doing it, I will not be alarmed. The medicine for it does sedate him some, but it is not a sedative. The most important thing to do is just give it time to stop. Time definitely slows down and you are aware of every second while it is happening. Ive been doing research on it and the more I learn, the less alarming it is to me. It will be important to Corbin that everyone near him stays calm while this is happening to him. Just to give one example, his heart rate jumps from 90 bpm to 140 beats per minute in a matter of seconds. Then, gradually comes back down after a lengthy plateau. Sometimes it goes back up, sometimes it doesnt. It happens several times per hour, perhaps more. Its hard to tell with the medicine. It seems very random. I am excited to see his eyes open and to see what his level of responsiveness is. We received a little bit more of Corbin today!
