Say RRRRR... The Bentley R-type saloon can be had for the price of a high-spec turbodiesel repmobile and yet has a level of style (and possible second usage as a wedding car) that the former cant hope to match. Both struggle in the style stakes when compared to the Continental. This helps to justify the slight price jump from saloon to Continental. And by slight, we mean enormous. RM Auctions has this sumptuous example up for sale at its Monaco sale on May 10th. One of only three Franay-bodied cars, and the only one with left-hand drive and a manual gearbox, its a rare item indeed. While that manual gearbox may aid enthusiastic driving, were already giddy on the enthusiastic staring it causes us to have. This one has passed through significant hands, from French textiles magnate Scion Edouard Vandendriessche originally and golf star Gene Littler in the Seventies. After an extensive $85k sprucing, it was displayed at the 2012 Amelia Island concours. Estimated at €725,000 - €1,000,000 it may not be cheap, but we can just about see why people pay so much more than the saloon. And as for that turbodiesel repmobile? Lets not be silly now...
