Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رَضِي اَللَّهُ عَنْهُ (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم said, "Beware of envy because envy consumes (destroys) the virtues just as the fire consumes the firewood," or he said "grass." [Abu Dawud] Commentary: Envy is one of the major sins which are bound to destroy virtues as fast as the fire burns the wood and dry grass to ashes. 270/1569 - Riyad Us-Saliheen (Gardens of the Righteous)
