Urgent Press Release: Policy Dialogue on Herbal Medicine The African Centre for Leadership, Strategy & Development has concluded arrangements for the hosting of the First Policy Dialogue on Herbal medicine at its headquarters in Abuja. The Dialogue will bring together Policy experts, Donor Agencies, Civil Society Organizations and a Cross section of media practitioners to deliberate on the relevance or otherwise of herbal medicine as a response to the current global health challenges as well as examine the current policies and programmes that regulate herbal medicine practice in Nigeria. It also seeks to examine the policy and practice of herbal medicine in Nigeria through an interface between researchers, civil society experts. In a statement released by, Mr. Uchenna Arisukwu, Programme Officer of Centre LSD, the topics slated for discussion are: 1. “Policy on Herbal Medicine: The Nigerian Experience” by Pharm Lawal, Director of Herbal Medicine Dept, Federal Ministry of Health. 2. “The Practice of Herbal Medicine in Nigeria and the Way Forward” by Dr. Ben Amodu 3. “The Place of herbal medicine in the search for Ebola cure” by Peter Apeh, Executive Director, Global Ebola Awareness Initiative. There will also be a robust questions, answers and interaction session to enable participants extensively discuss issues on herbal medicine in Nigeria. The Dialogue will be chaired by Mr. Samuel Etatuvie, Deputy Director Research at the Nigerian Natural medicine Development Agency while Pharm. Superior Atume, former Chairman of the Pharmaceutical Soceity of Nigeria, Abuja chapter will moderate the sessions. The event holds on the 30th of October, 2014 at the Centre LSD Conference Room, Suite 28 Tolse Plaza, 4 Franca Afegbua Crescent, After Zone E, Apo Legislative Quarters, Apo, Abuja.
