Scam Alert Recently the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department took a complaint from a citizen reference an company based in Canada using their home phone number. The caller indicates that they are a representative of the local phone company that they are calling and offering a discount on the phone bill. The caller then requests that the victim call a different number to get the discount. The complainant received a phone call from a phone company in Montana and a person in Wisconsin indicating they received calls from the local number. The Wisconsin Rapids Police Department is reminding people to use aware of who is calling and verify the information given to what is on the caller ID. If caller ID is not available, request a call back number and a contact before any personal; information is given. Then use your phone book or online yellow pages to confirm the number you are calling back.
