Scariest thing EVER!!!! Today around 1:00, Paul and I were out walking the dogs and we saw a little girl walking down Elgin Street South(a VERY busy street in our area for those not familiar with Cambridge) all by herself. A lady was walking toward her so we assumed it was her Mother going to meet her. Instead the lady passed by her on the street and after walking a couple of feet the woman looked back at her, walked a bit further and kept looking back, clearly concerned. I crossed the street and approached the little girl, crouching down to her level I asked Where are your Mommy and Daddy? The little girl looked up at me, crying and said Im sick and I miss my puppy, Im going home. When I asked her why the school didnt call her parents to come and get her to leave, she said I didnt tell them. I told her it isnt safe to be walking down the street by herself. I expalined to her that there is a lot of cars, and she could get lost, or she could meet a bad stranger. I said Lets go back to the school and get them to call your Mom and Dad. She turned around and walked back to the school with me (which is scary enough in itself), and along the way she told me her name and how old she is, she was 4. When I got to the school (Chalmers street School), I took her to the Principles office, and NO ONE even noticed that she was gone!!!! Including her teacher that was supposed to be on outside duty. HOW DO YOU NOT NOTICE WHEN A 4 YEAR OLD IS MISSING FROM YOUR CLASS!!??!! The principal thanked me and brought her in to the office for a chat about walking away from school like that. I really hope that her parents are informed of this incident. Seems like I was in the right place at the right time today.
