Scenario For Lightspeed Hobbies Warhammer 40K Tournament The Damnation Cache By Eric Ringer Every Space Marine chapter of the Adeptus Astartes, every Xenos life form, and every follower of the Chaos gods knows of its power. The extent of that power, however, is not known. It is said that the cache is a direct portal into the warp, it can lay waste to entire planets, even galaxies. To possess the Damnation Cache is to have untold power in the palm of your hands. Your army has been sent to locate the Damnation Cache. The planet you landed upon is overrun with demons, abominations and horrors from the warp running wild; and has a strange aura in the air that you cannot quite place. Once the cache is located you must close it and take possession of it at all costs. Other chapters and countless Xenos and the Chaos forces are actively searching for it and have already made planetfall. The clock is ticking… Rules for the scenario 1. You will need a librarian, farseer, sorcerer, or other psyker that can tap into the warp. If your army does not have one of these (ie. Necrons, Tau, Dark Eldar, Black Templars, and Sisters of Battle) then your warlord will take that roll. All other armies will need to have a psyker as part of their list. Only a psyker can close the cache unless a warlord has to take on that roll. 2. To close the cache your psyker or warlord will need to be within 3 inches of the cache (just like an objective.) closing the cache will take the place of your shooting for that character, for that turn. A psyker will need a 4+ to close the cache, a warlord from the above list will need a 5+ to close the cache (there is a benefit to having a psyker with you.) 3. After closing the cache you can take possession of the cache. Your movement with the cache is just like movement with a relic (rules for movement with a relic is found in the Warhammer 40k rulebook.) 4. Once the cache is closed any unit may take possession of the cache, you do not need the psyker to possess the cache. 5. There is a catch to this scenario. When you arrive on the battlefield, the cache has already been opened and atrocities from the warp are everywhere! During each players movement phase, before movement, a leadership test must be done for each unit on the board. If the leadership test is passed the unit moves as normal. If not, the unit stays stationary at its current position fighting the perils of the warp. Once the cache is closed, the required leadership tests before movement stops. 6. The cache will be placed on the board at the beginning of turn 2. A marker will be placed at the center of the board. The host of the tournament will roll 2D6 and a scatter dice (to avoid disagreements.), the cache will be place centered on the result of the roll. If a hit is rolled, the cache will be placed on the marker in the center of the board. 7. No data from the Escalation or Stronghold Assault books may be used for this event. However, data slates will be allowed as long as you have them with you at the tournament. 8. Besides these special rules, all other rules outlined in the Warhammer 40k rulebook apply. 9. All structures will be ruins unless you pay the points for a defense line. Scoring for the scenario 1. Closing the Damnation Cache – 3 points 2. Possession of the Damnation Cache at the end of game by an army – 4 points 3. Slaying the opposing player’s psyker – 2 points, (If the opposing player does not have a psyker and is using his warlord to close the cache then slaying the warlord is worth 3 points), 4. Line breaker, Slay the warlord, and First Blood – 1 point each *NOTE* At the last tournament there seemed to be some discrepancy as to what defined “ruins”. If you are standing outside the clearly defined lines of a structure (even if it is classified as a ruin), you are out of cover even if you are standing on terrain close to the structure. If there are clearly defined lines of a ruin and you are standing outside of those, you do not receive a cover save.
