School Day Devo About 15 years ago I was fishing in the bay, close to Port Charlotte. Long story short here - as I was approaching the channel between the bay, and the Gulf of Mexico, my motor died; and the tide was going out. This meant I had no way of preventing being swooshed out into the gulf - the water flow was too powerful. I threw two anchors in the water, but it did little to slow me down. As I reached the edge of the gulf, someone finally saw my signals, and knew I was in trouble - and came to my rescue. Thank the Lord! I’ve heard many stories of people being lost in the gulf, and I didn’t want to experience that. God was watching over me. I don’t remember being extremely scared, but I was a bit concerned. The anchors were not holding me in place, like they are designed to do. (parents might show picture of an anchor, and explain its purpose) We all need an anchor that will hold us safe in life. When our trust (anchor) is in money, popularity, being smart, or things we control, it will fail us in the end. We heart needs a rock-solid anchor. Hebrews 6:19-20 says, “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf.” In your life today, you have that anchor; Jesus. That means you need to attach your life to that which is good, pure, true, and lovely (Philippians 4:8). He will never, ever leave you, or forget about you. Whatever is going on in your life, He knows about it. Practice today, and everyday, to think about the good things of God, and not the lies of the enemy. Believe me, Satan will lie about how God feels about you - he cast fear, and ugly thoughts at you. Those things are from the pit of “you-know-where”. The more you believe the lies of Satan, the more you will find it a challenge to have faith in our anchor, Jesus! The Father promises through an age-old covenant, a love that’s as deep and wide as you may need in life. Here’s the bottom line. GOD created YOU! GOD loves YOU! GOD built into YOU the absolute need to depend on HIM. Joy and peace flows from your dependence on the Father’s words, and the gift of our anchor, Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5:21b - “Hold on to what is good.” Pray for your children’s surroundings today - the class, friends, playground, home, etc.. Pray that within the activities and events of the day, they begin to recognize to love of Jesus in their lives directed to others. Pray for the testimony of their faith be added to today. Remember, as their parent, it is okay to share that the Father is helping you with these same truths. Bless your family today!
