School roll warning Nasik Swami Monday, January 27, 2014 Source : Fiji Times Online SCHOOLS around the country that do not have adequate number of students could face problems this week. Education Minister Filipe Bole said it was the second week of the first term and schools should be ready for the new academic year by now. This will be the second week so I dont expect any school to be getting ready to start; they all should have started because its in the second week, Mr Bole said. He said if enrolment was slow, schools should find out a way of getting the adequate number of students. Schools should have the rolls and we expect the roll to be there in the beginning of the term. If they know that enrolment is slow, they might have to do something in order to try and get the students early, Mr Bole said. The minister earlier issued a warning to Lami High School that it would be closed if the school roll did not improve soon. According to the ministry, Mr Bole was angry to see the lax attitude of parents and the school stakeholders in enrolling their students. He said there were only 60 students enrolled which was disappointing. Mr Bole also said while some schools had established their rolls and seriously began their academic school year, some schools needed to change their mind-set especially when education was free now. The minister is expected to visit schools in the Western Division from Wednesday.
