Scientists used 192 beams from the world’s most powerful laser and shoot them at a small pellet of hydrogen fuel until it reached the point where nuclear fusion takes place (about 3.3. million Kelvin). This was the first time that the energy produced through a fusion reaction exceeded the amount of energy absorbed, which means researchers are one step closer to achieving self-sustaining nuclear fusion.
