Scotland 2nd August 2014 First to say a massive thank you to Scott Allen, Sam Allen and the WKA for giving us the opportunity to be involved in an event featuring some top fight action. Also thanks to both Liam and Sarahs opponents who were respectful and humble before and after the fights and a pleasure to meet both of them and their teams. And then a really big thanks to the supporters who came that had to spend a significant amount of money and time to come and support Liam and Sarah as it is massively appreciated, and without a doubt you made yourselves heard! (Should also mention the Cleveland supporters and others who joined in to support Wells and added to the noise of our own) FIGHT REPORTS (For those who couldn’t make it) - Keep in mind this is from memory and when being emotionally involved you may see a fight differently to the next person. Early in the show Sarah Worsfold was up against the Irish and 5 Nations champion Grace Banville who had a record 16 wins and only a single loss. This was a great match up as although Sarah lacked the number of fights experience of Banville she was coming off three consecutive English Southern Area title championship wins. The first round started and both girls moved and traded in bursts but Worsfolds side kick worked well to keep her opponent at range. It was clear from an early exchange that Worsfold was going to be the stronger and heavier hitter of the two especially when utilising the right hook, but Banville had good variety in her work and worked the hooks to the body well. The first round was Worsfolds as she had the last say in most exchanges and was generally keeping her opponent on the back foot. In the second round Banville came out and looked as though she was told to up the pace and take the fight to Worsfold which she did and forced Worsfold back at the start, but Worsfold was instructed to now work straight down the middle and pressurise her opponent and look to see if an early stoppage could be made by using her superior power. After forcing her opponent backwards with a constant stream of work and backing her up on the ropes, Worsfold through a heavy straight right hand on the end of a combination that rocked back the head of Banville leaving the referee with no choice but to stop the contest. Sarah Worsfold declared the winner by TKO in the second round. The co-main event of the evening was Falcons Current undisputed IKF British champion Liam Wells fighting for the WKA World light-welterweight championship of the World against the very experienced former British and current WKA Commonwealth and European champion Sean McKiddie from Scotland. On paper it was Scotlands own Sean McKiddie who would be favourite due to the greater international experience he has and big wins over some very well recognised fighters. But Liams reputation has grown massively having taken on anyone put in front of him and remaining undefeated against British opposition which helped put him in contention to fight McKiddie in Scotland for the World championship. This was matchup that has been talked about a great deal in social media since being announced and was a fight Kickboxing fight fans had been waiting to see so the anticipation for the fight was huge. Liam came out first and the large number of travelling fans were in really good voice for the Romford fighter making the atmosphere in the venue great. Second came Mckiddie after a long musical build up finally going into the Scottish anthem A Flower of Scotland that had the large number of Scottish fans on their feet singing to roof rasing levels, but the English fans were not being outdone with the chants for Liam Wells creating a truelly electric atmosphere. Everyone in the areana was now on their feet and emotionally involved in the fight. After the MC announcements the fight was ready and the first bell went. As promised Sean McKiddie was ready for a war and immediately steamed into Wells as the two traded punches and kicks from the very first second. The first round was a truly frenetic pace with McKiddie chasing Wells down and Wells working on the back foot to keep his opponent at range, both fighters were having success and both landing some extremely heavy shots in the process. The first round ended but signalled the start of what was to be a fight totally fitting for a world championship title and much talked about fight for which the crowd were responding with a deafening noise from the fired up supporters. The second round started and the pace and work rate did not relent as the fighters showed true heart and great physical conditioning to again work solidly for the whole round. Wells was using his trade mark kicks and fast hands and McKiddie was relentless with his aggression and heavy hands. In the third round the signs were there that Wells could start to control the fight and become the more the constant aggressor himself as he started to slip shots and have success with big hand combinations that forced McKiddie to the back foot. As the fight went on both fighters gave absolutely everything as did the crowd to spur their men on but it was now Wells looking more controlling. After five extremely hard fought rounds the fight went to the judges score cards and new WKA Light-welterweight World champion by unanimous decision was Falcons Liam Wells. Thank you to the Skyaxe team and top top fighter Sean McKiddie for making it the event and fight it deserved to be, and one that im sure people will remember for some time. This win is massive for the club and goes to show that Liams 100% dedication and sacrifice to his sport have paid off massively and he has been rewarded with what he deserves. Anyone who knows Liam knows this truly is a way of life for not just most of the time, but all of the time, and he is determined to keep on going and achieve much more, so this is a big milestone but by no means the end. He continues to grow as fighter and as person week by week and Myself and Paul are massively of what Liam has achieved for himself and the club so far – well done mate. Two fights and two really good results - well done both! The next outing for Liam Wells will be at Kombat Zone 7th September at the Casino Rooms, Kent. This will be the new World Champions home coming fight and will be a fight you really will not want to miss against a good Irish opponent for the IKF 5 Nations title as he looks to remain the top fighter in the light-welterweight Full Contact Kickboxing division. More details will follow very soon but Liam promises he will put on a top performance for those who could and couldn’t make it to watch in Scotland.
