Scotland can be Altogether Better: This photo lists European countries ranked by who has the lowest levels of child poverty. As per usual this is another positive measure of a country that is absolutely dominated by small northern European countries (like Scotland). Unfortunately Scotland sits with 1 in 4 children born into poverty, with 1 in 3 in the East End of Glasgow where I live. We are a nation with potentially unrivalled natural resources per head of population anywhere in the world and yet we are failing our children and future generations through being led down the There is no such thing as society, just a collection of individuals society as proclaimed by Margaret Thatcher, which through her obsession with a primeval “survival of the fittest” vision of free enterprise capitalism made her the darling of the right-wing and an inspiration to modern Tories and UKIP. Election after election Scotland has rejected the politics of me first, endeavouring to elect a socially concious and responsible government. However, they should have given up voting Labour the moment Tony Blair - Middle East Peace Envoy - came along. But here we are, Labour are in bed with the Tories fighting against independence and hence the hopes of the left lie firmly with the SNP, the Greens and the Socialists, all of whom are pushing for independence for Scotland and for a fairer, more equitable, more compassionate more prosperous for all society. If you believe that we need to at the very least try to eradicate child poverty and lack of hope you must surely be voting Yes. Are we too wee? Well here are the populations of the top 10 countries on my tower of Pampers: 1. Iceland 324,000 2. Sweden 9,595,000 3. Norway 5,077,000 4. Finland 5,436,000 5. Denmark 5,612,000 6. Netherlands 16,795,000 7. Luxembourg 542,000 8. Ireland 4,662,000 9. United Kingdom 64,097,000 10. Cyprus 1,117,000 (Note: Population of Scotland 5,295,000 = ideal)
