Screen Australia today launched Hot Shots, a new short film - TopicsExpress

Screen Australia today launched Hot Shots, a new short film program that will fund up to three short dramas, each up to a maximum of eight minutes, with a budget of $70,000 per project. Filmmakers will need to be inventive, creative and professional and be ready to tell surprising and emotionally engaging stories without breaking the bank. Hot Shots is a great opportunity for filmmakers to progress their skills and careers. The films must be professionally made on a $70,000 budget without additional finance, encouraging innovation and experimentation with an emphasis on strong and distinctive storytelling. Screen Australia’s Head of Development Martha Coleman said, Hot Shots builds on our overall professional development strategy by helping talented and ambitious filmmakers who are still honing their voice in the short film format. “We’re providing an opportunity for filmmakers to create their shorts in a professional production environment by properly resourcing them, once again encouraging a creative and rigorous approach to their work. Hot Shots is open for applications until Monday 28 October. For details, including eligibility and how to apply, go to screenaustralia.gov.au/Hot_Shots.asp Chris Corbett will be teaching how to write a great short film on Saturday1 and Sunday 2 Feb, 2014 Writing Short Films 1: Short films, often referred to as the “apprenticeship” towards feature films, are in fact an art form in themselves - one which is becoming increasingly popular at film festivals and online. But they require strong, well-structured scripts to capture an audience and tell a story in a limited amount of time. This course is designed to study the basic screenwriting skills applicable to writing a short film. Students will watch, analyse and discuss a selection of fabulous short films. Writing Short Films 2:Participants will take what was learnt in Writing Short Films 1 and take it further by participating in practical screenwriting exercises. Learn how to create memorable characters, identify what is driving those characters, find the heart of the story and maximise the dramatic elements to make the story compelling. Conducted by Chris Corbett (Scriptwriter Miss Fishers Murder Mysteries, The Secret Life of Us, The Doctor Blake Mysteries, Stingers, All Saints. Chris has written a number of short films including Fences and The Applicant - both of which were Tropfest finalists. He also wrote the web series Tinytown).
