Screening exercise to cover all pub service sectors - Ihonvbere BENIN CITY- Secretary to Edo State Government, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere said the on-going screening exercise for Primary School Teachers across the state will be extended to other levels and sectors of the state public service. He stated this yesterday in Government House, Benin City at a session with a delegation of the state chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools of Nigeria (ASUSS) who came on a courtesy visit. According to Prof. Ihonvbere, the screening and verification of teachers in the state is not designed to humiliate or witchhunt anyone, but rather, it is geared towards ensuring sanity in the education system as well as to complement the revived infrastructure in public schools across the state. The SSG who expressed gratitude to the leadership of ASUSS for its disposition to the efforts of government to bring about credibility and transparency in the education sector, however cautioned against utterance in some quarters against the process. Prof. Ihonvbere who promised to forward their demands to the state Governor, reminded the union members that it has great role to play to help inculcate necessary moral and values in the children, particularly in the academic work. National president, ASUSS, Comrade Charles Ossy faluyi who appreciate Governor Adam Oshiomhole for the appointment of some of their members into political offices, the approval of the balance of 10.5% TSA for all secondary school tutors and the recent approval for their promotion, however appealed to the Governor to give less publicity to the on-going screening exercise for teachers in the state. At a session with leaders of the Association of Christians in Authority, the SSG stressed that acquisition of power should be championed towards giving succor to the people and urged the group to sustain its prayers towards ensuring social justice in the country. President, Association of Christians in Authority, Pastor Efosa Idahosa, said the visit was to encourage the SSG to continue with his selfless service and assured of their continued prayers for enhanced peace and development in the state.
