Sean Cook posted this for his father: For those who have not heard, my father Dr. Bruce Cook, longtime director of bands, professor of Music and Founding Director of the Brooks Center for the Performing Arts at Clemson University, passed away yesterday after a year-long battle with cancer. Dad came to Clemson as Interim Director of Tiger Band during a leave of absence of John Butler, his college roommate at West Texas State College, in 1966 and stayed at Clemson through the remainder of his career. During his time at Clemson, several traditions were established or permanently ensconced, including running down the Hill through the Tiger Band Tunnel, the spelling of Tigers by the band, dotting of the i in Tigers, and the re-emergence of purple as an official Clemson color in 80s and 90s after the band adopted it for many of their casual wear tiger band sectional t-shirts and insisted on yelling purple from the band section during the cross-stadium Orange-White cheers. He will also be remembered for his kindness toward his students and colleagues, his love of Clemson, his devotion to family and his enthusiasm for music education. More details to follow.
