Seattle Pays $1.75M in Excessive Force Lawsuit City officials have agreed to pay $1.75 million to settle a lawsuit filed against the Seattle Police Department over the use of excessive force. The lawsuit was filed by the father of a mentally ill man who was allegedly handled violently by police during an arrest while he was having a mental-health crisis. The plaintiff says his son suffered "severe brain damage" after being handcuffed, gagged and forcefully held on the ground.
