Sec. Baldoz announces August job fairs; upbeat for ‘more jobs’ in the regions Published: July 31, 2013. Latest update: July 31, 2013. Department of Labor and Employment To sustain the Department of Labor and Employment’s efforts in facilitating employment in the country, Secretary of Labor and Employment Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz yesterday announced that more DOLE job fairs are coming this August as a fresh reminder to those who are looking for work. “There is no time to waste. We are bringing employment opportunities closer to more job seekers as the government is serious in realizing a job-led growth, especially in those areas at the periphery of socio-economic development,” Baldoz said. The conduct of year-round job fairs is one of the DOLE’s employment facilitation strategies to provide jobseekers continuous opportunities to find jobs and to assist employers to find qualified workers. The DOLE conducts mega job fairs, city and municipal job fairs, in-house job fairs, mini-job fairs, and barangay job fairs in close coordination with local government units (LGUs) and the Public Employment Service Offices (PESOs). These job fairs are supervised by the Bureau of Local Employment (BLE) and DOLE regional offices. For the month of August, the job fairs to be conducted in both urban and rural areas are as follows: NCR: August 3 and 10, 2013 -PESO Mandaluyong; August 16, 2013 -PESO Pasay City Office; August 17, 21, and 31, 2013 -PESO Mandaluyong. The DOLE’s year-round job fair schedules and venues are posted for online accessibility in the government’s job and skills matching portal. As DOLE regional offices brace for more job fairs towards the end of 2013, Baldoz encouraged students and jobseekers to visit or contact the DOLE’s regional and field offices and the Public Employment Service Offices in their localities to check the latest job fair venues and the list of licensed private recruitment and placement agencies (PRPAs) and their authorized branch offices and representatives to guide them in their job hunting. “Our DOLE front liners, in partnership with our PESO officers, will assist jobseekers in verifying the authenticity and legitimacy of companies and local recruitment agencies so they will not be duped into non-existing jobs or illegal recruitment scams,” she said, adding that a visit to PESO is helpful if they wish to avail of other employment facilitation assistance and services. “For example, they should know the schedule of our job fairs, training, and career counseling which could help them get into ‘skills-fit’ employment opportunities, or find about enterprise or livelihood opportunities as alternative to wage or salaried employment,” the labor and employment chief said. She said an updated directory of PESO offices across the regions can be accessed at the DOLE’s Bureau of Local Employment website.
