A long long time ago, even back before last Wednesday, in a small town just west of Bogan Gate, there lived a young Hobbit like character called Sniper Skinner. Sniper spent his days happily hunting in the woods and doing the occasional plumbing job in exchange for beer. He was just like all the other inhabitants of Trundle except he had a special magic power. Sniper had the ability to make all his clothes disappear. One day as Sniper and his best mate Sam were stalking rabbits in the woods, a wise young wizard named Coach Sense appeared before them. He spoke of an evil uprising in the west. A force of Ram like Footballers from Condobolin were plotting to overthrow his team from the coveted third spot on the Woodbridge Cup Ladder. Sniper and Sam were aghast! But they were just simple tradies who liked to hunt. What good would they be in the face of evil?! But Coach Sense went on to explain that they had friends in the North. Former Knights in fact. And he had organised to meet said evil at Pola Park Tullamore on Saturday at 3pm. He told Sniper that his magic powers could be the difference in putting an end to all evil for all time or at the very least relegating them to fifth spot on the ladder. And so it was our band of warriors set off at dawn. It is not quite clear why they left at dawn as they all had pretty good cars and Tullamore is only twenty minutes away. But none the less they were there well before the bad guys. While most conflicts between good and evil generally take the form of bloody battles, it was decided that a congenial game of rugby league would suffice today. It was the Boomers and all the good that goes with them that drew blood first and they did it early. With just three minutes registering on the big screen at Pola Park, Flash Fairliegh crossed in the corner. While Sniper was unable to add the extras, it seemingly didn’t matter, because after just eight minutes, local boy Little Porter was able to regather a Nik Harris grubber to score under the posts. While often the orchestrator, this was Little Porters first pie for the season and Mum Porter celebrated appropriately. Not to be outdone and eager to please his home town crowd, Medium Porter soon posted points by snapping up a Big Porter off load and at the twelfth minute mark it looked as evil was in all sorts of trouble at 14-0. The next 15 minutes was a phase of brutal defence and attack by the ram like Condo side. Jesus Wild and Sparky Turner were gallant under attack while Jenko constantly held evil to account. But the Rams were soon rewarded for stepping up the intensity with their rake Shane Mcrae opening the account for the visitors. The whistleblower was the star of the last ten minutes before the break awarding 700 penalties in ten minutes to no one in particular. The Boomers started the second stanza exactly as they did the first with Medium Porter gaining his second try and landing it right in front of Mum Porter. But as Mum Porter celebrated the third try to her offspring for the day, Marlene Coe stepped up the decibels and her son replied by posting three tries of his own and giving the visitors a narrow lead that looked like it could see the bad guys prevail. The young Elf recruited from Fifield, Pos Stevenson, was desperate in defence as was Macca at the back. When all seemed lost and with seconds to spare, Travis Stevenson put a clever kick directly across the field into the arms of Medium Porter. He put it straight back onto the toe but the crowd groaned as the pill landed safely in the arms of the Condo fullback and all seemed lost to evil. Then there was a flash of white! The Condo fullback was momentarily blinded by the white flesh of Sniper, who had miraculously made his playing strip disappear. There was a mad scramble for the loose pill but it was fittingly Jenko who has was finally able to deliver the Justice to all evil. The good guys prevailed 24-20 and crowned Nik Harris as their best, followed by Ryan Porter and Shaun Turner.
