Second Thoughts....... Comfort is the enemy of growth. The moment we become too comfortable with the way we are, we stop getting any better. When we buy only books and magazines that support our views instead of challenging them, when we associate only with people who agree with us instead of making us think, then we become complacent. Our minds no longer have to stretch and the comfort zone is where prejudices and bigotry grow. When we refuse to venture outside our own religious, racial, cultural or political group, we may come to feel that our group is superior to all the others. When we dont get to know the others we tend to cross them. To move outside our own sphere, sometimes it takes courage and it always requires some initiative. It is easier to remain in our comfortable environment but it is only in encounters with differences that we find a cure for prejudice, ignorance and insecurity.
