Second grade students were asked to give their opinions about the new realistic doll, Lammily. One thing that I noticed from this video is the stereotypes that children are already picking up regarding the way that a woman looks and what her intellectual capacities are. Note that most children interviewed commented that the Barbie would be a fashion model, stuck up, or a makeup artist, while Lammily was thought to help someone in need, work with computers, or even a pilot. Kudos to the little blonde girl that looked at Barbie and stated, She looks like she could do any job. While there is a need for a larger range of ethnicity and body types within dolls that are marketed to children, it is important to keep in mind that the way one looks does not determine ones intellectual or career capacities. This way of thinking reminds me of The Clark Doll Experiment used in Brown vs. The Board of Education in 1954. Children of racial minorities were asked questions about a black or white doll. Not only did they describe the black dolls as less likeable, but they described them as bad. What do you think about the realistic doll and stereotypes based on childrens dolls? https://youtube/watch?v=Jue_JlxnPGM
