Second time on to One Summer by David Baldacci. In 2011 I bought this book in Bangalore; no one knew Baldacci then, strangely. This book touched my heart as it runs down with the same Indian Culture & Family values we are brought up with and that Americans are no strangers to it either. Its universal, not just India-specific. In fact Baldacci was the author of the book Absolute Power (1996) which was filmed in 1997 with Clint Eastwood and Gene Hackman playing the lead. From 1996 to 2011 he has written 11 Novels. His last novel in 2012 was a thriller called The Innocent. (Not the movie of 1995). I have not heard about him after that and I am told he had shifted from US to Vienna, Austria. Though born and brought up in Richmond, Virginia he is of an Italian descent. I am not sure he still runs his Non-Profitable Wish You Well Foundation an NGO working towards eliminating illiteracy across America. Hey, have gone off the rails. Reading this novel One Summer felt like reading a powerful family drama written by an Americanized Tamil Novelist Lakshmi or Siva Sankari or Sujatha Rangarajan or for that matter even Jayakanthan. Only the settings in America and the characters names were not Indian, thats the only difference I find. I am 100% confident Kannan knows more about this guy than me for sure.
