Securitas Torpedo 36 - Longford Falcons 34 The ladies team hosted local rivals Falcons in Edgeworthstown tonight. Torpedos still unbeaten in the league started off quite well with some early unanswered scores and some tight defence. The nerves were evident though as slowly but surely Falcons edged back into the game and actually ended the quarter 1 point up. Sloppy turnovers were Torpedos achilles heel tonight as far too many times they made sloppy passes and silly mistakes allowing Falcons to remain in the game. Torpedos led by 5 going into the 2nd half and the game started to settle down a bit more with both teams going basket for basket but Torpedos holding onto the narrow lead. In the last quarter Falcons stepped up there man defence and with Torpedos on team fouls Falcons took advantage and drew the fouls sending them to the line 3 times in the last minute and drawing the game level. The seconds ticked away and the game ended level. In overtime both teams found it hard to find the scores and the winning baskets eventually came to Torpedos by way of 2 free throws calmly scored by captain Barbara McElvaney. Smart defence and hard work stopped Falcons efforts and the ladies ran out 2 point winners. A great match for the neutrals and played in good spirit. Another great win for the ladies who extend their amazing unbeaten run. Big thank you to the refs and lads for doing table and of course the support. Ladies play Carrick Cougars next Tuesday in Edgeworthstown at 20:10 all support welcome!!
