See what one of my Smithfield theatre friends said about Les Miserables: Yesterday, Erika and I went to see PCT’s production of Les Misarables. Frankly, I thought that at best we would see a good effort at a difficult and complex musical by a community theater group. Instead, I was blown away. This is by far the best production and performance by community theater that I have ever seen. In fact it seems unfair to compare this to community theater. I think I was moved more by this production of Les Mis than any professional production I have seen. I would like to be able to point out specific performances that excelled but that would require me to copy and paste the entire cast list. Even the ensemble was full of strong performances by very talented people, a couple of whom I have had the pleasure of working with. Jeff Corriviau did an amazing job putting this together, especially considering that PCT’s stage is rather small. I would never have thought that an effective Les Mis set could be designed for PCT’s stage yet Jeff managed to create a single set which remained on stage for the entire play but also added to the artistic and dramatic effect of the play. I actually preferred this set to the turntable design that the licensing agreement for the play prohibited. Whether you have ever seen Les Mis or not, you must see PCT’s production.
