“Seek Ye First the Kingdom of God” Luke 12:31 “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need” Luke 12:31 (NLT). One of the many things I love about the Bible is that it tells us exactly how we can get the very desires of our heart, how we can live a joyful and fulfilling life. It tells us everything we need to know not only for building a solid relationship with God, but also for enjoying life right here in this sinful world. This verse speaks to that very truth. It gives us a simple formula for joy-filled living: Seek the things of God above the things of the world, and God will give you everything you need. WOW! That seems so simple. But how does it work? I’ve discovered in my life that when I seek the things of God, all the sparkling baubles of this earth seem to lose their charm; I recognize them for the cheap trinkets that they are, and my heart’s desires are changed, they’re transformed, so that I can focus on the true treasures—people. I’ve learned that when I focus on eternity, my eyes are opened and I begin to distinguish between genuine and fake; and it’s in the seeking of the Kingdom of God above all else that I find true, sustainable joy in the eternal treasures of God.
