Seems the prison cut backs introduced by the Government are having an appalling and sad affect on all within the prison establishments. Reading today, that staff shortages mean that prisoners are spending as much as 22 hours locked up. A report shows that an alarming 225 deaths in custody took place, and yet Mr Grayling states there is no crisis in the system. The saddest report I read was an experienced Prison officer who was on duty whilst an inmate killed himself. The police and employer instigated an investigation to a criminal standard. After 8 months of doubt over this officers integrity and professionalism: no charges were brought. Some days after this, the officer was found dead at his home. At what price is the government making cuts backs and how much is a life worth to them???
