Seems to be the season for jobs!!! Amazing Conservation Opportunity! As Field Director of a rainforest research station. The Agumbe Rainforest Research Station (ARRS), a dynamic conservation and research base in the Western Ghats, is a field station of the Madras Crocodile Bank/Centre for Herpetology. Located in a beautiful campus in Shimoga district, Karnataka, ARRS includes accommodation, offices, solar power and broadband connectivity. It has received national and international recognition including the Whitley Award. Apart from an on-going project on the king cobra, its studies involve other species of reptiles, birds, amphibians, plants and mammals. Its education program attracts school and college students from all over the world and an Interpretation Centre is underway. Madras Crocodile Bank seeks a field director for ARRS. Apart from running the facility, the job entails coordinating its research program, supervising volunteers and staff, and developing facility and its operations. It includes networking with scientists and conservationists, financial control and supervision. The candidate should have an academic and experiential background of environmental science, and a good knowledge of English to enable (for example) reporting, fund-raising, communication with local and international collaborators, networking with investors and conservationists. Knowledge of Kannada is desirable but not essential. Simple but adequate accommodation is provided, with of course amazing views and landscapes… and a serious monsoon which brings 7 meters of rainfall over a four month period! The salary, commensurate with qualifications and experience, will be discussed at the time of interview.
