Selecting Companions Do not be deceived: Bad company corrupts - TopicsExpress

Selecting Companions Do not be deceived: Bad company corrupts good morals. 1 Corinthians 15:33, NASB What could be more clear than this scripture, “Bad company corrupts good morals”? How many times have God-fearing parents raised their children up in the admonition of the Lord, only to send them off to college to be corrupted by the ungodly? How many on-fire young people have been sent off to Bible school only to be quenched by the lukewarmness of a cold-hearted professor? I could go on and on, and I’m sure you could too, relating stories of loved ones and friends who have been polluted by bad company. I love the way George Swinnock attacks this issue in his writings. Waters vary their savor according to the veins of the soil through which they slide. Animals alter their natures answerable to the climates in which they live. Men are apt to be changed for the better or worse, according to the conditions of them with whom they daily converse. The election, therefore, of our companions is one of the weightiest actions of our lives. Our future good or hurt depends so much upon it. Rev. Swinnock calls our selection of friends one of the weightiest actions of our lives. Today I would encourage you to take a quick examination of the people who influence you the most. Make sure they influence you toward God, rather than away from Him. If, in your friends, you see more of the world than you do the Word, perhaps it would be best to reevaluate those friendships.
