Selkie Shell’s Divination Samhain Incense 1 tsp. crushed Mugwort Leaves – To aid psychic abilities, astral projection • 1 tsp. Frankincense resin, crushed into small pieces – For protection, purification, transformation and psychic abilities • 1 tsp. crushed Rosemary Leaves – For remembrance and protection • 1 tsp. crushed Mullein leaves – For divination and protection • 1 bay leaf, crushed – For Protection, psychic abilities, purification, strength • 1 sage leaf, crushed – For protection and wisdom • 1 tsp. crushed red rose petals – For divination, psychic abilities and protection • 1 drop Patchouli essential oil – To commune with the underworld, protection • 1 drop of Rose oil – For divination • 3 rowan berries, crushed – For protection and psychic abilities • A pinch of nutmeg – To enhance dreams, clairvoyance • A pinch of sea salt – For purification Place the ingredients in a mortar and grind up with a pestle, starting with the woods, then the herbs, and lastly, the resins and oils. The resins are very sticky and will help to absorb the woods and herbs from the mortar and be sure you grind each ingredient separately. The bowl-shaped mortar is a representation of feminine energy and the phallic shaped pestle represents the masculine so by using the two together; balance is achieved. Throughout the grinding process remember to focus your intent to increase the magical potency of your incense. Then mix all the ingredients together in a bowl. Carefully light your charcoal, I find it is best to use tongs to hold the charcoal, as it can heat very quickly and may burn your fingers. Then Place the lit charcoal on a bed of slat in a suitable, heatproof charcoal burner and sprinkle a small amount of the incense onto it.
