Senior match report vs Sommerville. Yesterday we took on a side who was level with us ladder position wise and a team that got us by 9 points earlier in the year in the Sommerville Football Club. We spoke all week about their strengths, when they get the game on their terms for an extended period they can cause a lot of damage. This is what transpired in the first quarter which was very disappointing. We compete in a great competition that if youre not giving your best effort from word go the opposition will get a hold of you. We come in 40pts down at quarter time and after another good chat we were optimistic about what was required to get back in the contest. We needed to chip away at the margin by winning contested ball, win 50/50 contests and get tackle happy for the reminding three quarters. Again to the players credit, they took it on board and got to work. Chewing into the margin to get it back to 4 goals at half time. The msg continued through the half time break, do the little things, the basics well and we will continue to push them. We dominated the second half of footy. 16 scoring shots to 6. But again wasteful in front of goal. We worked so hard to get back in the game we deserved maximum reward. We hit the lead with 5 min to go but unfortunately couldnt hold onto a prize that for three quarters had worked our backsides off for. The result, a heartbreaking 4 point loss. Our group proved a lot of things yesterday... That the players are made of the right stuff, the belief that has been missing within our club for 4-5 years is back and the players have got tremendous character. 12 months ago that would have been an 8-9 goal loss, we have come along way. In saying that though, we know what went wrong yesterday. We werent switch on enough before the game and hence got whacked in the first quarter. We cant accept that going forward and for the remainder of the season. We need to as players be quicker at accessing the game and what we need to do to snap the trend. Huge game vs Hastings FC at home, our last home game together. We have a severe injury toll, we know this, so it will be backs to the wall kind of stuff. A really good rehab effort by all players is needed. Beach, pools and massage over the next two days. 8 quarters remain for the year for our senior side. We want and deserve a big finish. Better players yesterday Craig Thorne Billy Hayes Stef Baumgartner Dylan Mitchell Heath Black Tom Cotton Enjoy your Sunday and see you all fresh and ready to go Tuesday night. Cheers Brent
