Seniors: We hope this note finds you well. We realize this is a very stressful time of the year in regards to completing your college applications. As a reminder, we are here to help you, so please make an appointment with your counselor if you have any questions or need our assistance. Here is some important information for you to know: · Our next common app tutorials/college app tutorials will be November 19, 20 and 21st in room 110 during all four lunches. · Approximately 75 applications were submitted (or will be submitted by midnight tonight) for the 11.1 deadline. It is imperative you give your counselor TWO WEEKS NOTICE prior to your deadline due to the volume of applications we process. If you have an 11.15 deadline, you MUST submit your request by midnight tonight. · Report cards-will be available on 11.15.13. If your college requires you to send your first quarter grades, please do so by making a copy and mailing it to the college. We suggest you write up a short cover letter to go with your report card. If your college does not require your first quarter grades, feel free to send them especially if you had an exceptional quarter! If you do not have a copy machine at home, you can go to Staples or the NK Free Library. · Mid-year reports-Some students have been asking about mid-year reports. We will be visiting your English class after the first of the year to discuss mid-year reports. Please keep in mind they will not be available till the beginning of February after first semester grades are in and rank/GPA have been recalculated. · As a reminder, you do not need to fill out a blue transcript request form if your college is on the common app. You only need to fill out a blue transcript request form if your college is not on Common APP and/or they do not use an online system such as SENDEDU that allows us to upload your documents. It is your responsibility to print out the guidance counselor form that some colleges require so please be sure you take the time to look at each school’s requirements you are applying to. We are here to help you navigate so make an appointment with us if you are unsure of a particular school’s requirement. · Resume-there are still a few of you who have not submitted your resume to your guidance counselor. Please take care of this task ASAP as it was due the first week of September. · SAT/ACT-You must request College Board and/or ACT to send your official scores to the colleges you are applying to. Keep in mind when you registered for the exam, you were able to put down four schools to have your scores sent to. If you apply to more than four schools, you must pay a fee to College Board/ACT for every additional score. · As of today, 42 colleges have extended their due date because of glitches with the new Common Application. Therefore, some of you may have noticed that your deadlines have been extended from 11.1.13 to 11.8, 11.11, 11.12 or 11.15. · For those of you not planning on attending college, please be sure to see your counselor to share your post-secondary plans (if applicable ) or for our input/assistance with the various options. We are here to help you navigate the next step in your life. · Deep breaths, it will all work out! We promise!
