Sent Hayden out on a deer near Biggin Hill last night. When he arrived the police were with it and then a chap called Eddie who runs Willow Wildlife in Chiselhurst also arrived. Wed like to thank Eddie as Hayden only had our small rescue truck and so Eddie offered to drive the deer to us, as his van had a bit more room. Sadly, this gorgeous buck, with antlers just coming out of velvet, had paralysed rear legs. My x-ray confirmed that he had sustained a spinal fracture just above the pelvis...sadly, a fatal injury. Thanks to everyone from the police, the caller, Eddie and my guys Hayden and Adam, who all helped - not the outcome we ever want but better than just being left at roadside, fatally injured and in total panic. What a shame the person who hit him didnt see it the same way and bother to stop...he was hardly a small animal that you would be unable to find. Totally heartless....
