Sent from my BlackBerry® smartphone from Vodacom Tanzania Politics to Politicians The recently rolled out draft constitution issued by the CRC for public vetting has opened a Pandora box of worms. Tanzanians once again are being diverted from real issues facing them on a day to day basis to complete gibberish. If you think about reasons for proposing three governments and of course, whom it will advantage, you can’t help but get stunned. How will a fragmented union help strengthen individual lives of any single Tanzanian mainlander or Zanzibari? The answer is no way, as Nyerere prophesied it will only make matters worse. I am still struggling to understand why Hon Warioba and his team rubbished this popular counsel. Methinks that politicians and highly placed individuals are the only people who will benefit from the proposal to create three countries in one, create three presidents in one country and three parliaments in one country. How else can I look at it? Will the constitutional document really change the reality of whats facing an ordinary Tanzanian in the street? Lets wait and see but I doubt it. I call upon the proud people of Tanzania to resist the temptation to send the country to the dogs. Let’s devolve the non political powers of the state to be able to serve the citizens more closely. Let’s empower the president to defend our country even better in the face of new geopolitical changes. While I agree to the letter that the country union structure is flawed and needs improvement, I believe we need the leadership of the day to exercise visionary and firm leadership to rescue the country from irredeemable fragmentation. Let’s fix issues facing wananchi in their daily struggle for a better living and let’s not succumb to the pressure from dark forces. Defending our union has to be a matter of life and death because a divided country will ultimately cost lives. My view is that Zanzibaris have a lot already and they are lead beneficiaries of the union. The politicians are however the ones to deal with for instigating secessionist sentiments among the citizenry in the isles. Home Affairs, Defence, Foreign Affairs, Currency, Constitution, Immigration, Elections and Political parties, and Customs should and must remain union matters. At any cost. We must fight to the last sent, to the last man to keep Tanzania united. If you use the example of China, they have always resisted the sentiments of fragmenting the country. The rulers of the day must also preach for a united Tanzania. My crystal clear balls tell me that the draft constitution proposed by the CRC is outside what this country needs now. It’s too much distraction from what an ordinary guy in the street needs. We needed a document which will address real challenges of a Tanzanians today, not the whims of the political class. For example instead of increasing a new presidential slot we should reduce the Zanzibari one to governhood. Instead of removing “political responsibility” from cabinet ministers and lump it with the president and his deputy, we should devolve such powers down to the people. See you at the katiba barazaz.
